In this audio podcast and weekly article I often include a section about common mistakes in English. Today, I want to take that a bit further and dedicate a whole edition to very commonly confused words. Now, these words are so commonly confused that they have pride of place in this newsletter and I generally hope that it will help you from making future mistakes.
We all make mistakes and we all put our foot in it at times, but to be honest, I believe that by making mistakes we are able to learn so much more than from anything else. We shouldn’t be ashamed of our mistakes but see them as opportunities to widen our knowledge. That’s all very well and good as long as you have someone to help you learn from your mistakes and teach you the difference between things and abracadabra! That’s where I come in. As an English teacher by profession and from listening to adult students for many, many years I have been able to acquire a huge insight into what confuses you.
As I have the most experience in helping native Spanish speakers improve their English, and as a Spanish speaker myself, these commonly confused words may be more relevant to them/you. However, there will be common ground for non-native speakers.
